Apply now to be Halo’s PREDATOR FREE APPRENTICE
FULL-TIME, FIXED-TERM FOR TWO YEARS
The Predator Free NZ vision requires skilled practitioners to help projects achieve their goals of predator control and eventually eradication. However, there are currently a limited number of experienced predator control specialists around the country and no clear career pathway for people wanting to get involved in the sector.
The Predator Free Apprentice Programme aims to grow the number of experienced animal pest control specialists to support the predator free vision. The programme provides a career path for people wanting to work in predator control and will increase the capacity and capability of the sector.
The paid apprenticeship involves:
· Completion of the NZ Certificate in Pest Operations (NZQA Level 3).
· Completion of a comprehensive First Aid Certificate.
· Attendance at a workshop specifically aimed at apprentices to provide up to date industry information, relevant skills, health and safety overview and the opportunity to meet talented predator control specialists and other apprentices.
· Potential to complete additional industry certifications such as Controlled Substance Licence, Grow Safe, chainsaw and other relevant certifications.
· Apprentices will gain a range of predator control experiences, including project planning, implementation, maintenance and monitoring. This may take the form of placements with other organisations.
· Apprentices will be expected to spend approximately 10% of their paid time helping community conservation groups.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR applicants who:
· Are NZ citizens or permanent residents and aged at least 17 years.
· Have a full driver’s licence and a vehicle.
